Emerging wildflowers and wildlife everywhere

First sign of bear - bear scat that is. Just down the hill from us. I took the whistle with me on my walk this morning. Bear sightings are very few and far between, but you never know - at least they're wild and shy here - not like CB, where a lot of bears have forgotten their natural food and roam in town to rummage in garbage cans, cars, and basements.

On the theory that I'm correct on the upcoming wildflower season (early and short) I'm taking photos of everything as it pops up.Things already move way too fast here for the summer months and I don't want to miss anything.

We have our first patio umbrella!  Came as ordered with a 50lb stand. A little more complicated to figure out what we needed than I thought. Wood, metal, tilt/no tilt, width, weighted stand, wind resistant - blah, blah. Hopefully we picked out the right one.

Craziness with the hummingbirds. We just purchased our third feeder - it was getting way out of hand with record feedings (5 times a day) - on the theory that more stations would calm it down. So far it's seems to be working. It could be that there's less blooming right now for them to eat, and those crazy orange Rufus haven't even shown up yet.
Mark's been around for two weeks, which has been lovely. Back to Detroit this coming week and then Virginia the following.  Busy man! At least he got some golf time in.
Yet another book done - this an autobiography by Alice March called Counting Danger. She was a famous tennis star in the 30's and 40's and also acted as a spy for the U.S. in World War II. Unfortunately she died right before this was published in 1991. A shame, but very compelling story.

I'll leave you with a couple new deer photos. You can see why we leave the landscape around the house as mostly wild. They'll eat most anything we dare to plant.
