Teeny weeny happenings

After many days of overcast and rain, blue sky & sunshine today. Hurray. Lost track of how many pairs of muddy shoes I've had to clean. The price of having dirt roads... So little traffic that I - drove on the wrong side of Carbon Creek because one; I could, and two, the mud ruts were worse on the right side. Also stopped the car in the middle of the road out of Star Mt. to hand scoot a half grown baby grouse off the road. Not very good self-protective skills if you ask me...
I've been mostly on duty with the hummingbird feeders since Mark is in a multi day golf tournament. They are voracious eaters to say the least. Here's a tip, you really, really need to have the bee guards in place - if not, the bees actually crawl inside the feeder to surprise the poor person who is refilling it.
Hmmm...it took 2 1/2 weeks for Flap to find the petunias, but alas, she has. Flap is our so named doe that has a wiggly piece of ear at the top, and our gorgeous beautiful basket of fuchsia petunias that Sherry & Paul bought us is in grave danger. Caught her munching before I scared her away, but she did not go easily.
Mushrooms are popping up everywhere. August is the time, but the rain, and more rain probably helped. At one time Crested Butte claimed to be mushroom capital and had a cooking festival to celebrate, but that's stopped. When we first bought the property saw tons of all kinds and excitedly bought a book to learn about them. Wow, that stopped me from even thinking about picking, eating, or generally getting close to them. So many are wildly poisonous - hey, maybe that's why the festival disbanded - the participants didn't make it (kidding, kidding).
